The Swedish Embassy in Colombia has commissioned Indevelop to undertake a review of the Ombudsman Institution. The Defensoria del Pueblo in Colombia is the State Institution responsible for the promotion, implementation and dissemination of human rights and was created by the new Constitution on 1991. The Defensoría del Pueblo plays an important role in promoting and defending human rights of the most vulnerable population, as well as in creating conditions for a possible future peace process and conflict prevention through strengthened popular participation. Sida has supported the Defensoria del Pueblo in Colombia since 1996.
The purpose of the mid-term review of the Regional Human Rights Program of the Ombudsman Institution in Colombia is to assess the implementation of the Program from June 2009 to July 2011.
