Indevelop will be undertaking the Sida commissioned external review of the Centre for Science and Environment in India. CSE is a non-governmental organisation based in New Delhi and has been working with issues related to environment and sustainable development since 1980. Through media advocacy, environmental research, awareness creation, education and training programmes, CSE contributes to building awareness on issues relating to environment and civil society including policy development in the country.

Sida has been working with CSE as a project partner for some time now on issues related to sustainable development and environment. CSE is at once an aid recipient as well as an independent advisor and partner on issues related to Southern perspectives on rights based, democratic development and environment, both within the region as well as internationally.

The external review is planned to systematically and objectively assess the organisation's performance and success to date. The review should include forward-looking recommendations that can ensure the sustainability of results and lessons learned, as well as recommend new directions for the remaining support period, where necessary. However, the focus of the review should be the way in which the organisation can continue to maintain its position, within the National context, as a critical voice of civil society and a checking mechanism for the Government in the areas of environment beyond the Sida support period.
