Strategic communication and advocacy for development

Strategic communications planning is essential in almost all development initiatives.

The strategic use of communication reduces risks and strengthens the impact of development projects and programmes. Indevelop provides a range of communications services from strategic communications planning and designing dialogue and advocacy tools to building communications capacities and producing operational materials.

Indevelop's communication and advocacy services include:

• Advocacy and dialogue support: This includes developing advocacy strategies and producing advocacy materials (such as dialogue support tools, brochures for policy makers and decision makers). For example, Indevelop wrote and produced Sexual Rights for All, which was launched by Sweden at a satellite meeting at the International AIDS conference in Vienna in 2010. We also develop customized dialogue tools that aid in discussions on key issues, including human rights. Such tools include customized information on an issue, including background, local context and key discussion points. An example is a dialogue tool on gender-based violence for foreign ministry personnel at Sweden's embassies that Indevelop helped create for the Gender Equality Team at Sida.
• Printed materials: We write and produce reports, brochures and other printed materials for a variety of uses in English and Swedish. Our clients include Sida and the European Commission.
• Strategic communication planning: Indevelop can write for all types of development projects and programmes.
• Capacity building and trainings on strategic communication, including customized courses. In 2010 Indevelop provided a much-appreciated strategic communications component to Sida's Advanced International Training Programme on Human Rights, Peace and Security for professionals from six different post-conflict countries working on a variety of different projects.
