Strengthening midwifery competencies to train midwifery tutors and MSc students, Ethiopia
The SIDA/UNFPA Programme focuses on training midwives and strengthening midwifery education, developing practice standards, and developing and strengthening national midwifery associations.
The programme has been training tutors and preceptors to enhance the quality of teaching. Upon request from Gonder University, SIDA and UNFPA decided to engage a consultant to provide technical assistance to University of Gonder and train the MSc students in Theoretical Foundations of Midwifery, Professional Ethics & Competencies.
The course will enable the student midwives to develop an advanced practitioner who will be competent in providing evidence based midwifery and infant care in a variety of settings.
Indevelop was contracted by Sida to provide the following service:
- Train 22 midwifery tutors in Evidence Based Midwifery
- Train MSc students in Theoretical Foundations of Midwifery, Professional Ethics & Competencies
- Conduct a five days course for midwifery tutors in Evidence Based Midwifery
- Conduct four days course for MSc midwifery students in "Theoretical Foundations of Midwifery, Professional Ethics and Competencies at Gondar University
- Plan for a visit to follow-up on the activities
