Quality assurance at Midwifery teaching institutions
Indevelop has undertaken an assignment for UNFPA and Sida for the Midwives Programme conceived by UNFPA and the ICM as a joint response to the worldwide emerging interest for Human Resources for Maternal Health, seen as the most critical component of health systems.
In close collaboration with Ministry of Health and UNFPA, the team designed a system and tools to monitor the midwifery education and set desired performance standards suitable to the Ethipian needs. The team incorporated the ICM/WHO Core Competencies and those of Africa in the quality assurance system framework; developed simple monitoring and evaluation formats to be used by institution to monitor and evaluate teaching; Pre-test the developed tools in two of the nearby midwifery training institutions; Provided training for tutors on how to use the developed tools.
