Mundo Maya – Micro Enterprise programme
A comprehensive study aiming at identifying small and micro enterprises in connection with the development of Maya tourism centres in five countries in Central America: Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize, Mexico and Honduras.
Background:
The overall project comprises comprehensive development of tourist centres around Maya culture sites including archaeology, construction of roads, bridges, airports and hotels and tourist sites. The environmental issue is of highest concern in all five countries.
Services provided:
In coordination with the stakeholders, a feasible micro enterprise program was designed for each of the selected sites geared towards the improvement of the living conditions of the inhabitants near archaeological or natural attractions, considering tourism as an alternative source of living.
Proposed projects contribute to the prevention of the existing natural and cultural wealth as well as the strengthening of local communities.
