Maternal and Child Health Programme
Objective:
The overall objective of the programme was to contribute to an improved health among women and children in the province of Luanda. Specifically, the programme aimed to:
- Improve the quality of the existing health services;
- Expand the coverage of basic health services in order to make them accessible to the whole population of Luanda;
- Improve the knowledge and competence of the health personnel;
- Improve the integration of the programmes and services;
- Strengthen the planning and management capacity of the Provincial Directorate, the municipal health structures and at the peripheral health units, in order to ensure the sustainability of the provision of health services.
The programme includes assistance to: the Reproductive Health programme, the Child Health programme, the Public Health and Institutional Support programme, and the Midwifery School.
Services provided:
- Systematic training to raise the competence of the health staff including on-the-job training, seminars, workshops, study visits, development of curricula and teaching methods/material;
- Introducing better methods for prevention and treatment of diseases through elaboration of standards and norms, adoption of best practices, and emphasising health ethics and values;
