Capacity building project for Tanzania Chamber of Commerce
In 1988, the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) was formed in Tanzania. TCCIA was set up to strengthen the private sector in the country. Today, it is recognized as the focal point for articulation, involvement and action on private enterprise development issues. It is a democratic, voluntary, member-led organisation that encompasses all sectors of economy and businesses. Since 1995, Sida has supported TCCIA in its development into a modern and supportive chamber of commerce. InDevelop-IPM has been selected by Sida to support TCCIA in its endeavour to reach sustainability and a high degree of service. The TCCIA regional chambers follow the overall geographical and political division of the country.
The Consultant has been involved in the following defined projects funded by Sida:
Consulting, Coaching and Training Services for a Capacity and Competence Building Programme 08/2002- 12/2004.
The project's activities were based on an extensive Inception Report, where all regional offices, and some districts, were visited and relevant people were interviewed. The Logical Framework Approach (LFA) was used throughout the project. The analysis of findings during the inception period resulted in a 2-year activity programme basically including training programs on management, accounting, membership recruitment and computer training.
Capacity Building Programme for Sustainability, 01/2005 - 09/2008.
The Purpose and Objective of the services was to assist TCCIA in its efforts to put in place a programme of increasing revenue as well as a cost cutting programme, in order to achieve a great measure of sustainability at all levels of its operations. An activity programme was designed including extensive training programmes on management, administration, business plans, membership recruitment, economy and accounting systems along with follow up and control systems and measurable indicators. Further, the IT sector was fully developed.
Winding up Programme, 10/2008- 09/2009.
Following the recommendations by an independent consultant in 2008, Sida agreed to support TCCIA in a winding up and phasing out programme, provided TCCIA presented a program proposal following the main recommendations of the independent consultant. InDevelop-IPM was chosen by TCCIA to assist during the winding up period.
