Peace and Security in Africa
The ITP Peace and Security in Africa (PASA) is carried out by the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University (DPCR) in cooperation with the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of (ACCORD) and the Swedish consultancy company Indevelop.
PASA aims to increase the capacity of regional organisations in Sub-Saharan Africa to prevent, manage and resolve armed conflicts on the continent. The subject focus of the programme is on theoretical and practical knowledge about peace and security in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The target group for PASA is African inter-governmental or nongovernmental regional organisations (or sub-regional, i.e., working in at least two or more countries) focusing on issues relating to peace and security in Sub-Saharan Africa, and whose work in this field has a regional relevance and impact.
The programme consists of five compulsory phases. Phase II will be held in Uppsala, Sweden, 3-22 October 2011 and phase IV in Durban, South Africa, 5-14 March 2012. Prior to, in between and following these two scheduled phases of the course, the participants devote time to develop a project assignment (change project) at their home organisations. The projects aim at strengthening the participating organisations' abilities to set and achieve goals in the field of peace and security in the region. Applicants must submit a project proposal already when applying to the programme.
