Juba, South Sudan
While recruiting participants for our second Sida international training program on UNSCR 1325 in Juba, South Sudan, the week before last, I met with many organisation, institutions, donors and other interested parties. Together with the Embassy of Sweden we also hosted a meeting for former and potential candidates to the training program and were very happy to see such a big turnout. The former participants were given the opportunity to present their change projects and share their experiences of the training program in Sweden.
The development of the South Sudan National Action Plan was also discussed and with the help of among others, UNWOMEN and some of our participants, it seems likely that work on the action plan might be realised soon. The challenges in South Sudan are still great, just the week before more than 3000 people, a majority women and children, had been killed in Pibor in Jonglei State, and more than 120 000 people have been displaced by the violence. Still, the people I met are positive and proud to belong to the newest country in the world.
