Human security

The concept of human security refers to a transformation that has slowly taken place since the Second World War. It recognizes that the security of states is essential, but it goes beyond that and focuses on citizens and individual human beings with rights.

Indevelop's general approach to human security is based on national ownership and existing local conditions and systems that have the potential to gain trust and legitimacy among, as well as protect, the whole population without discrimination. Indevelop provides support to methods and dialogue, analyses, indicators for process and results, clear results-based management and an increased focus on reporting and sharing experiences and lessons learned.

Indevelop focuses specifically on the following aspects of human security:

• Conflict/context analysis: understanding conflict dynamics
• Conflict sensitivity in development programs
• Mechanisms to promote representation and accountability
• Human rights and gender equality in peace processes

In addition to in-house competences we cooperate with other leading Swedish and international universities, organizations and consultancy companies specialized in specific aspects of human security.

We also carry out studies and evaluations, training programs focusing on aspects of the social contract and the relationship between the state (duty bearers), the individual (rights holders) and civil society organizations in a sustainable democracy.
